As
you enter the Lovelace Museum and Hall of Honor you are greeted
by a 16 minute video highligting great moments in Auburn Athletics
history.
The museum's mission
statement by Auburn's Director of Athletics David Housel,
the Auburn Creed penned by George Petrie, former Auburn History
professor and the first football coach, and a statement from
Cliff Hare, a member of Auburn's first football team and longtime
chairman of Auburn's Faculty Athletic Committee, grace the
walls of the room.
The introductory
room also houses Pat Sullivan's 1971 Heisman Trophy (Bo Jackson's
1985 Heisman Trophy resides in the Rane Reception Room across
from the museum entrance). Since 1968 the Downtown Athletic
Club has presented a Heisman Trophy to both the year's best
football player in the nation and to his university.
The introductory
room also features several rotating kiosks that feature trophies
from recent championships and other memorabilia. Recently,
the kiosks featured a display on Mr. Jonathan B. Lovelace,
the namesake of the museum, trophies from the many swimming
national championships, artifacts from the 2003 Capital One
Bowl, and various items from the Auburn vs. Georgia game won
by Auburn 10-0 on February 20, 1892 - Auburn's very first
football game.
Here you will also
find a panaroma of photographs covering every varsity sport
at Auburn. There is also a listing of the All-Time Lettermen
in every varsity sport.
The Introductory
room also features a Mascots Display area. This section honors
Aubie, the Tiger mascots, and the "War Eagle" battle
cry. It features several Aubie costumes, photographs, a real
stuffed Golden Eagle, a life-sized man-made Bengal Tiger,
and the story of the origin of the battle cry, "War Eagle!"
